Bagarinao, Epifanio Jr.
Epifanio Bagarinao, Jr. is currently affiliated
with the Neuroscience Research Institute of the National Institute
of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology in Japan. His
research fields include grid computing, real-time functional MRI
analysis, and machine learning.
He received his Doctor of Science in Biophysical
Engineering from Osaka University, Japan where he was working on
the reconstruction of bifurcation structures of dynamical systems from time series data.
After his graduate study, he became a JSPS (Japan Society for the
Promotion of Science) fellow at the Department of Systems and Human
Science, Graduate School of Engineering Science, Osaka University.
Dr. Bagarinao obtained his Master of Science in
Physics in 1995 from the National Institute of Physics, University
of the Philippines. His Bachelor's degree (Applied Physics) was
also obtained in the same institution in 1993.
Research
Dr. Bagarinao is currently working on the real-time
analysis of functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) time series.
He developed an incremental algorithm to estimate general linear
models, a versatile and powerful tool in the analysis of fMRI time
series. Using this method, a real-time fMRI analysis system using
a PC cluster was developed.
