Barlaan, Edward A.
Edward A. Barlaan is a postdoctoral fellow at the
National Institute of Crop Science (NICS), formerly called National
Agriculture Research Center (NARC) at Tsukuba, Ibaraki, Japan. He
is working on molecular mapping of traits in rice related to lodging
resistance, morphological and agronomic characters, and grain quality.
He took his PhD at Ehime University, Japan; MS
at University of the Philippines at Los Banos and Kagawa University,
Japan; and BS at University of Southern Mindanao, Philippines (cum
laude). He had been affiliated as a researcher with the following
establishments: National Institute for Vegetables, Ornamentals and
Tea, Japan (nitrate and ammonia assimilation in tea); Kagawa University,
Japan (genetic and molecular studies on genes involved in nitrate
assimilation in rice); International Rice Research Institute (IRRI),
Philippines (rice breeding, soybean and cowpea breeding for rice-based
cropping systems) and as an instructor at University of Southern
Mindanao.
His present and past professional society memberships
include Crop Science Society of America, American Society of Agronomy,
Soil Science Society of America, Japanese Society of Breeding, and
Crop Science Society of the Philippines.
