Maglambayan, Victor Banaag
Dr. Maglambayan is an experienced mining geologist
who is now working in the academe. He finished BS Geology (cum laude)
in the University of the Philippines Diliman in 1980. He worked
briefly as instructor, then spent the next 11 years in various positions
in three mining companies. He worked briefly as junior geologist
for Vulcan Mining Corp. and then moved to its sister company, Acoje
Mining Co. where he spent 7 years. There, he rose from junior geologist
to division manager of exploration, mine planning and development.
In 1998, he transferred to Philex Mining Corp. as senior geologist.
He went back to the university for graduate studies
as Monbusho scholar. He finished MS Geology and Ph. D. in Geology
in Akita University, Japan. He is currently the OIC Director of
the National Institute of Geological Sciences in the University
of the Philippines. He is an an active member of the Geological
Society of the Philippines and the PHILAJAMES (Philippine Association
of Japanese Ministry of Education Scholars). He also serves in concurrent
capacity as affiliate professor of the UP Open University and sits
as Review Committee member of the Environmental Impact Statement
Division of the Environmental Management Bureau.
