Impacts of the establishment of a marine
reserve in Apo island on local reef diversity and socioeconomic
conditions of the community
Apo island marine reserve is the longest existing
and successfully managed reserve in the Philippines. Studies have
shown that the marine reserve significantly increased fish catches.
In addition, establishment of the marine reserve attracted visitors
both from within the country and outside. Given its long existing,
this study aims to determine the effect on both the ref fish diversity
and the socioeconomic conditions of the local people, and how this
reserve has been managed.
